Braised Beef Cottage Pie

This cottage pie is so simple to make since the beef filling is already prepped and full of flavour!

Instructions

To prep the meat filling:
  1. Heat a pan on medium heat. Add in butter and sweat diced onion, carrot, frozen peas and carrot for 6-8 minutes until softened.
  2. Add in beef filling and add in Worcestershire and broth. Stir to combine. Season to taste with salt & pepper if needed.
  3. When combined, remove from heat and add into a glass baking dish. Set aside in the fridge while you make your potato filling.
To make potato filling:
  1. Wash and peel potatoes and slice into quarters.
  2. Add the quarters into a large pot of cold water and add a generous amount of salt. Turn to high heat and bring to a boil.
  3. Boil the potatoes until fork tender, about 12-15 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 400 F.
  4. Drain and mash potatoes using a masher or ricer in a large bowl. Add shredded warmed milk and butter and stir to combine. Add in shredded cheese until it's melted through.
  5. Add in salt & pepper to taste and then add in your egg yolk. Stir to combine.
  6. Add the potato filling on top of the meat filling, and smooth out.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the meat filling is bubbly and there is a slight crust on top. You can broil for an additional 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Enjoy :)
