Hot Hawaiian Pizza
For Episode 4 of Pizza Party Friday, this thick-crust Hawaiian pizza is a bold twist on a classic—layered with ham, crispy bacon, grilled pineapple, and jalapeños for heat. It’s inspired by nostalgic Pizza Hut pan pies and made even better with a drizzle of hot honey.

Instructions
To prepare dough:
- Mix warm water, yeast, sugar and olive oil in a measuring glass. Allow to sit for 5 minutes for the yeast to bloom.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- When the yeast is bloomed, add the yeast mixture to the flour and stir until it becomes a shaggy dough.
- Transfer dough to a work surface, and knead for about 10 minutes or until it becomes a smooth dough. (This can also be done in a stand mixer!)
- Drizzle the bottom of a large bowl with olive oil. Add dough to the bowl and cover with a kitchen towel and allow to rise for 1 hour in a warm area.
For the pizza sauce:
- Combine all ingredients in a food processor or with a hand blender and set aside. (You will not use all of it for this recipe but it can be frozen for your next pizza night or last up to a week in the fridge!)
To prepare grilled pineapple:
- Preheat a grill to 400-450 F.
- Slice the top and bottom off the pineapple. Peel the pineapple by slicing off the outside about 1/2 inch in, ensuring the spikey parts are gone.
- Then, slice the pineapple into disks about an inch thick, there should be about 6 disks.
- Add the pineapple disks to the grill and sear on both sides about 4-5 minutes per side till they have a nice char on both sides.
- Remove from the grill and allow to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. When slicing, ensure to discard the middle core part and dice the rest into bite-sized pieces.
For the maple bacon:
- Turn the oven to 400 F. Add the slices of bacon to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Add the slices of bacon and add to the oven. It's okay if the oven is still pre-heating, this will help with rendering the fat of the bacon slowly.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until crispy to your liking. In the last 2 minutes of cooking, add 1 tbsp of maple syrup or brown sugar.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before dabbing off with paper towel and dicing finely.
To bake the pizza:
- Preheat oven to 425 F. Roll out your pizza dough into a large circle. In a large cast iron pan, fit your pizza dough in the pan the best you can.
- Add about 3/4 - 1 cup sauce, depending on how saucey you like it, leaving a ring around the outside uncovered so that you have a crust. Add on your shredded cheese, bacon bits, sliced jalapeño, ham, and grilled pineapple.
- Bake for 25 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and drizzle with hot honey before slicing and serving!
